A Proposal for Bali & Indonesia

Bali already makes
people feel.
Now imagine if every family
could take that feeling home.

A system that captures the emotion Bali already creates — and turns it into something families keep, destinations measure, and the world has never seen.

What We're Asking

No funding.
Just an open door.

We've built the system. We're funding it ourselves. All we need from government is the opportunity to prove it works.

  • An official endorsement or co-branding
  • Introduction to pilot hotel and resort partners
  • Integration with Tourism 5.0 and MaiA (Indonesia’s AI tourism assistant)
  • Opportunity to present at Wonderful Indonesia events
The pages below explain why this matters, how it works, and what Bali gains.

Tourism is no longer about where people go. It's about how they want to feel.

Why Bali

The world's most emotionally
recognisable destination.

People don't come to Bali for a hotel room. They come because of how Bali makes them feel. No other destination carries this emotional identity so naturally.

  • Calm & Healing
  • Spiritual Connection
  • Family Togetherness
  • Beauty & Wonder
  • Personal Transformation
6.94Mforeign tourists visited Bali in 2025 — a new record
21.75%of Bali's GDP comes directly from tourism

Strategic Alignment

This delivers what Indonesia's
tourism strategy demands.

“The future of Indonesian tourism is not just about chasing numbers. We are strengthening the quality of the visitor experience and ensuring the industry remains sustainable for generations to come.”— Indonesia's Minister of Tourism, 2026
Quality Tourism

Deeper, Higher-Value Experiences

Emotional design creates the meaningful, experience-based tourism that #GoBeyondOrdinary promises — aligned with Indonesia's named 2026 priority of quality over volume.

Wellness Pillar

The Missing Piece

Wellness and health tourism is a named 2026 national pillar within a $6.8 trillion global wellness economy. Emotional wellbeing for families completes it.

Experience-Based Travel

From Destinations to Stories

97% of travellers say travel helps them recharge emotionally. Indonesia is shifting from places to narratives. Emotional passports turn sightseeing into felt experiences.

Family & Youth Markets

The Highest-Value Segment

The average family spent $8,052 on travel in 2024 — a 20% increase year-on-year. Millennials and Gen Z parents are the top 2026 segment.

The Evidence

This isn't intuition.
It's neuroscience.

The Mood Monsters methodology is rooted in peer-reviewed clinical research. Every passport prompt, every reflection activity, every family conversation is designed by a practising psychiatrist using evidence-based principles.

Emotional Words Encode Stronger Memories

Attaching emotional words to experiences activates the amygdala–hippocampus circuit. Children and adults recall emotional words significantly better than neutral ones. Every prompt in the passport is a memory anchor.

Kensinger & Corkin, 2003; LaBar & Cabeza, 2006

Affect Labelling Regulates the Brain

Putting feelings into words reduces amygdala reactivity and increases prefrontal cortical control. The result: calmer children, calmer families, deeper experiences. "I feel butterflies" becomes self-regulation in action.

Lieberman et al., 2007 — UCLA

Multisensory + Emotion = Lasting Memory

When children name their feelings while drawing, sticking, listening, or touching, the experience fuses across multiple brain systems. Attach an emotion — and the memory lasts a lifetime.

Shams & Seitz, 2008; Murray et al., 2016

Children don't remember the hotel. They remember how they felt.

A three-layer emotional
tourism system.

Each layer adds value independently. Together, they create something no destination on earth has ever built.

Mood Monsters Bali Passport

Every child visiting a partner hotel, attraction or tourism site receives a beautifully designed emotional travel passport — transforming a holiday into something they'll keep, remember, and talk about forever.

The passport contains daily reflection prompts, Mood Monster stickers earned at partner locations, family conversation activities, and a “collect five feelings” challenge. Backed by clinical research: attaching emotional words to experiences activates the amygdala–hippocampus circuit, making memories longer, stronger, and more vivid.

  • "Which Mood Monster did you feel when you visited this temple?"
  • "Draw your happiest moment from today."
  • "What made you feel calm, brave, or excited?"
  • "Write a message to Bali about how it made you feel."
  • "Collect five different feelings from your Bali journey."
For Children

Ages 4-12. Builds emotional vocabulary, creates meaningful travel memories through psychiatry-designed activities.

For Parents

Deeper family conversations, shareable social media moments, a lasting keepsake from the journey.

For Hotels

A premium family differentiator, increased guest satisfaction scores, stronger brand association with emotional wellbeing.

For Bali

A global media story, a repeat visit driver, and a unique brand asset no other destination possesses.

Layer Three

MoodReview: Emotional
intelligence for tourism.

A data layer giving Bali something no destination in the world currently has: the ability to measure how visitors actually feel. Already built and operational at moodreview.com.

Instead of asking

“Rate this 1–5 stars”

Star ratings tell you nothing about what a visitor felt, why they'll return, or what to improve.

MoodReview asks

“How did this place
make you feel?”

Which places create calm? Where do families feel most connected? Where is emotional friction highest?

Sample emotional data dashboard

87%
felt calm at Tirta Empul
92%
felt connected at ceremonies
94%
felt wonder at rice terraces
41%
felt overwhelmed at Kuta

MoodReview complements Indonesia's Tourism 5.0 digital infrastructure, launched by Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism in November 2025:

  • MaiA Integration Emotional data feeds Indonesia's AI tourism assistant, recommending destinations based on how travellers want to feel — not just where they want to go.
  • Policy Dashboard Real-time emotional heat maps showing where positive emotions are strongest and where investment is needed most.
  • Wonderful Indonesia Awards Data could inform a "Most Emotionally Impactful Experience" category — the world's first emotion-based tourism award.
  • Destination Improvement Identify emotional friction before it becomes a star-rating complaint. Proactive, not reactive tourism management.

The strongest memories from travel are never the itinerary. They are the feelings.
